Why we’re building Ntracko

Microsoft 365 gives large organizations a platform that works at any scale. Keeping license assignments or any other capability aligned with that platform, across thousands of users and every configuration, plan, or contract change, is the organization's own job. Ntracko exists to make that job take an hour instead of a project.
Where it started
Ntracko comes from the work Clouds on Mars does every day inside Fortune 500 tenants. For the past year, we have been building targeted tools for problems we kept solving by hand for those customers: changing one setting across 500 Power Platform environments, keeping track of costs when a tenant holds 30 thousands of Copilot Studio agents, checking who holds which license and why.
The pattern was always the same. A task that takes minutes in one environment takes a week at enterprise scale. Most teams answer that with a custom script. The script works, until the platform moves on and nobody updates it.
What we kept finding
One customer moved to Microsoft 365 E7. They had their own automated license management, built carefully and running for years. It had not yet been updated for E7, which already includes Power BI. The separate Power BI Pro assignments stayed in place: up to $200,000 per month for something they already owned.
Nobody made a mistake that day. Licenses are assigned by different people, at different times, for good reasons. Acquisitions add a layer. Tenant merges add completely another management structure. Every time Microsoft brings a new service into a suite, the suite becomes more valuable, and every older standalone assignment of that service becomes a decision someone has to make.
At 150 users, you can still review that by hand. At 300,000, nobody tries.
What Ntracko is
Ntracko is a set of tools for running Microsoft environments at enterprise scale. The first one is License Optimizer, delivered as a licensing assessment.
More than 1,000 optimization rules across more than 6,000 Microsoft SKUs. They cover overlapping plans (E3 alongside E5, Power BI Pro alongside a suite that includes it, Visio Plan 1 alongside Plan 2), licenses on disabled and long-inactive accounts, and services you already own but pay for separately.
Rules that keep up. Microsoft adds plans, renames them, and retires older ones. Our team updates the rules as that happens, so the assessment reflects the platform as it is today, not as it was when someone wrote a script.
Read-only. Ntracko reads license and account data and makes recommendations. Nothing in your tenant changes until you decide it should.
About an hour of one administrator's time is what it takes to generate required data. Your admin grants read access or runs a script; we run the assessment and review every report before it reaches you.
We create a curated list of recommendations for your specific infrastructure, not a dashboard. Named users, the assignments involved, the evidence, and the estimated annual impact at public Microsoft prices. In PDF, Excel, or HTML.
What it is not
Ntracko is not a tool that answers all of your questions about the Microsoft platform. We build targeted tools, each one for a specific problem we have already had to solve ourselves.
The platform is far too wide for one tool to cover it well, so each Ntracko tool must earn its place on its own.
Who it is for
Organizations with 500 or more licensed Microsoft 365 users, several plans in one tenant, and often a history of acquisitions or tenant merges. In practice: the IT director who owns Microsoft 365 adoption, the CFO who signs the renewal, the licensing manager who reconciles the numbers, and the platform team of one to three people who look after the whole group.
What the savings are for
Sometimes it's not about buying less. It's about redistributing. If you have 2,000 Office licenses and know where the 200 unused ones are, you can postpone the moment you need to buy more.
The next new starter gets a license on day one, and the next purchase moves months down the line. The budget freed from overlapping assignments can go to Copilot for the teams that use it, to Azure capacity for the next data project, or to whatever the business needs next. Your Microsoft investment stays the same size and does more work.
What we have seen so far
Across the first ten tenants assessed, Ntracko flagged more than 34,000 license assignments for review and more than $7M per year in potential savings. In one Fortune 100 tenant with over 300,000 accounts, a single product accounted for $2.2M per year: 13,000 Power BI Pro assignments already covered by other licenses.
These are estimates at public Microsoft prices. What you save depends on the decisions you make with the list.
